About Banua Pirihi


anua Pirihi (The Story) Forest is all to them. It provides livelihood to them - when disaster happens, they relocate – move from one place to another place freely and settle. But this natural way of life of the indigenous people got disturbed by the jaminders (landlords) and the Britishers when they started to capture forests. These simple tribal people became subject or even bonded labourers of the Britishers and Landlords. The same story repeated in the forests of todays Jharkhand. These indigenous people fought for freedom from all the oppressions under the leadership of Birsa Munda. But Banua Pirihi continues. Even today, these people are getting displaced from their mother forest. They dream that another Birsa will come to show them the way to freedom from oppression.

Being a Tribal artist, I feel it strongly to portray our way of live engulfed within superstition, myths and bad customs. Proper education can only bring us out of this mental bondage. I take theatre as a medium to convey this strong massage to our tribal fraternity and rest of the world. That’s make Banua Pirihi.
